2022年3月、アメリカのロサンゼルスで第94回（だい94かい）アカデミー賞（しょう）が行なわれました。国際長編映画賞（こくさいちょうへんえいがしょう）は、濱口竜介（はまぐちりゅうすけ）監督（かんとく）の「ドライブ・マイ・カー」が受賞（じゅしょう）しました。国際長編映画賞（こくさいちょうへんえいがしょう）の受賞（じゅしょう）は、13年ぶり2回目の快挙（かいきょ）となりました。
「ドライブ・マイ・カー」が国際長編映画賞（こくさいちょうへんえいがしょう）を受賞（じゅしょう）したことをきっかけに、日本映画について、留学生にインタビューしてみました。

2019年度第92回から、アカデミー賞国際長編映画賞と呼ばれるようになりました。それまでは、外国語映画賞と呼ばれていました。「ドライブ・マイ・カー」が国際長編映画賞を受賞するのは、滝田洋次郎監督の「おくりびと」が外国語映画賞を受賞した以来のことです。2000年以降に、国際長編映画賞・外国語映画賞を受賞、またはノミネートされた日本映画を4本紹介します。
① ドライブ・マイ・カー(2021年度受賞)

作品紹介：1980年代後半頃の話。舞台俳優で演出家の家福悠介は、脚本家の妻・音と幸せに暮らしていました。しかし、妻は秘密を抱えて、突然亡くなってしまいます。音が亡くなった2年後、演出を任された演劇先に愛車で向かった先で、専属ドライバーのみさきに出会います。口数の少ないみさきが運転する愛車で過ごす時間の中で、悠介は妻の残した秘密に向き合っていく物語です。

Description of the work: It is the story based on the late 1980s. Yusuke Iefuku, a stage actor and director, lived happily with his scriptwriter and wife, Oto. However, his wife dies suddenly, holding a secret. 2 years after Oto’s death, he drives his car to the theatre he had been entrusted with directing, where he meets his personal driver Misaki. In the time spent in the car driven by Misaki, with a few words, Yusuke came face to face with the secret left behind by his wife.
② 万引き家族(2018年度ノミネート)

作品紹介：日雇い仕事をしている柴田治は、古い長屋で、妻の信代、息子の祥太、信代の妹の亜紀と、家主の母・初枝の年金を頼りにして暮らしていました。年金で足りない生活費は、万引きで賄っていました。社会の底辺にいるような一家でしたが、笑いが絶えない日々を送っていました。ある日、治は近くの団地の廊下で震えていた幼い女の子を連れ帰り、信代は娘として育てることになりました。しかし、ある事件をきっかけに仲の良かった家族はバラバラになり、それぞれが抱える秘密や切なる願いが明らかになっていく物語です。

Description of the work: Day labourer Osamu Shibata lived in an old tenement house with his wife Nobuyo, son Shota, and Nobuyo’s sister Aki. He relied on the landlord’s mother Hatsue’s pension. The living expenses, which were not enough to cover the pension, were covered by shoplifting. Although the family seemed to be at the bottom of society, they lived a life of constant laughter. One day, Osamu brought home a young girl who was shivering in the corridor of a nearby apartment block, and Nobuyo was to raise her as her daughter. However, an incident leads to the break-up of the close-knit family, and the story reveals the secrets and longing wishes that each of them hold.
③ おくりびと(2008年度受賞）

作品紹介：元チェリストの小林大悟は、求人広告で“旅のお手伝い”を見て、NKエージェントを訪ねます。そこで取り扱っているのは“旅のお手伝い”ではなく、安らかな“旅立ちのお手伝い”で、遺体を棺に納める仕事でした。大悟は、妻の美香に仕事を偽り、納棺師の見習いとして働きだしました。この物語では、様々な境遇の人々の旅立ちに関わっていきます。

Description of the work: Daigo Kobayashi, a former cellist, sees a job advertisement looking for “travel assistance” and visits NK agency. What they offered was not “travel assistance,” but “assistance for a peaceful death,” and the job is to put away bodies into coffins. Daigo deceives his wife Mika that he is a nokanshi apprentice and starts the job. In this story, he is involved in the death of people from all kinds of circumstances.
④ たそがれ清兵衛(2003年度ノミネート)
監督：山田洋次
主演：真田広之
原作：藤沢周平
ジャンル：時代劇
作品紹介：江戸時代末期（19世紀中頃）の話。下級武士の井口清兵衛は、妻を亡くし、2人の娘と老母の世話をしている家庭的な人でした。日が暮れるとすぐに帰宅するので「たそがれの清兵衛」と呼ばれていました。しかし彼は、剣術に大変優れていたので、軍の命令で暗殺者に選ばれてしまうという物語です。
The Twilight Samurai (2003 nominee)

Genre: historical drama
Description of the work: It is the story of the late Edo period (mid-19th century). Seibee Iguchi, a low-ranking samurai, was a homely man who had lost his wife and was taking care of his two daughters and elderly mother. He was known as ‘Twilight Seibee’ because he returned home as soon as the sun went down. However, he was very good at swordsmanship and he was chosen to be an assassin on military orders.
