北京2022冬季（とうき）オリンピックが開幕（かいまく）―2022 Beijing Winter Olympics kicks off

2022年2月4日から20日までの17日間は、冬季（とうき）オリンピック、3月4日から13日の10日間はパラリンピックが開催（かいさい）されます。今回のオリンピックで、皆さんはどの種目に興味（きょうみ）がありますか。今回は、「興味（きょうみ）のある種目や観戦方法」について話してみましょう。

英語と日本語で、よんでみよう！

ウィンタースポーツと言えば、日本ではフィギュアスケートの人気が飛びぬけて高いね。次いでスキージャンプ、若者に人気のスノーボードとなっているよ。

Speaking of winter sports, figure skating is by far the most popular in Japan. Next is ski jumping and snowboarding which are popular among young people.

カナダは、北京大会でメダル獲得（かくとく）する数が世界トップ5に入ると予測（よそく）されているね。どの種目も人気だけど、一番人気のある冬季（とうき）オリンピック種目は「カーリング」かな。

Canada is expected to be among the top five in the world to win medals at the Beijing Olympics. All the events are popular, but I wonder if the most popular event in the Winter Olympic is “curling”?

北京とバンクーバーは16時間も時差があるけど、テレビ観戦するのに不便じゃないの？

Beijing and Vancouver have a time difference of 16 hours, so isn’t it inconvenient to watch the games  live on television programs?

時差で合わない場合、後で録画（ろくが）アーカイブを見るよ。その時はテレビじゃなくて、インターネットで見る予定かな。

If I can’t watch the games in real-time because of the time difference, I’ll watch the archives later. At that time, I’m going to watch them on the Internet instead.

北京2022冬季オリンピックより、7つの新種目が加わりました。種目の内容を説明しながら、日本人選手が出場するのか、それぞれ見ていきましょう。

①　スキージャンプ混合団体

各チームとも男女2人ずつが組み、ジャンプ台はヒルサイズ106mのノーマルヒルで行われます。女子、男子、女子、男子の順で1回ずつジャンプし、飛距離や飛行中のスタイルを採点します。上位8チームに入れば2回目に進み、計8回の飛躍の合計点で争います。

本種目に日本選手は出場し、メダル獲得が期待され、メンバーは現地で発表されます。

Ski Jumping Mixed Team

The jumping platform will be on the Normal Hill with a hill size of 106m.  A man and a woman will pair up and set to jump together one after another, and they will be scored by their flying distance and flight style. If they make it in the top eight teams, they will advance to the second round where they will compete using the total score of their next eight jumps.

Japanese athletes will participate in this event and are expected to win medals, and the team members will be announced on-site.

②　ボブスレー女子1人乗り

ボブスレーは前方にハンドル、後方にブレーキを備えた流線型鋼鉄製そりを使って、氷上を滑り、タイムを競う競技で、女子選手が1人で乗る「モノモブ」が初めて採用されます。

日本勢はほとんど国際大会に出場しておらず、北京五輪の出場枠はありません。

Bobsleigh for women, single rider

Bobsleigh is a competition of sliding on ice using a streamlined steel sled, with a steering wheel in the front and a brake in the back.  It is a competition of speed. For the  Winter Olympics,  a solo event for women “Monomob” will be available for the first time.

Japanese athletes rarely participated in international competitions, and there are no slots available in the Beijing Olympics.

③　フリースタイルスキービッグエア男子・女子

キッカーと呼ばれる反り立ったジャンプ台から空中高く飛び出して、アクロバティックな演技を見せる採点競技です。エアの高さや距離、難易度、完成度で競います。

日本からは、女子の近藤心音選手が出場します。

Freestyle Ski Big Air for Men and Women

This is a scoring competition where athletes jump high into the air from a warped jumping platform called a kicker and show off their acrobatic performances. The competition is based on the height of the air, the distance, the difficulty, and perfection.

Japan’s Kokone Kondo will be competing in the women’s competition.

④　フリースタイルスキーエアリアル混合団体

キッカーと呼ばれる反り立ったジャンプ台から飛び出し、空中でアクロバティックな演技を見せる採点競技です。5人の審判が、エア20％、フォーム50％、着地30％の10点満点で採点されます。男女1人以上による1チーム3人ずつで構成され、1人目は必ず女子が滑り、3人の合計得点で争います。

今大会では、日本選手の出場はありません。

Freestyle Ski Aerial Mixed Team.

This is a scoring competition in which competitors jump from a kicker, an upright jumping platform, and perform acrobatics in the air. 5 judges score the competition on a 10-point scale: 20% for aerials, 50% for form, and 30% for landings. Each team consists of three skaters, at least one male and one female, and the first skater is always a female,  with the total score of the three skaters being used in the competition.

There will be no Japanese athletes competing in this event.

⑤　スノーボードクロス混合団体

複数の選手がジャンプ台などの障害物がある急カーブの多いコースを同時に滑走し、着順を争います。混合団体は男女2人のペアで構成され、第1走者は男子で、女子は同じチームの男子がゴールした瞬間に滑り始め、先着順で勝敗が決まります。

今大会では、日本選手の出場はありません。

Snowboard Cross Mixed Team Competition.

Multiple athletes ski simultaneously on a course with many sharp turns and obstacles, such as jumping platforms and fighting for the finish line.  Mixed teams will consist of two pairs of men and two pairs of women, with the men’s team running first.  The women’s team will start skiing the moment the men’s team finishes, and the winner will be determined by whoever reaches the finish line the quickest. There will be no Japanese athletes competing in this event.

⑥　スピードスケートショートトラック混合リレー

1チーム男女各2人の計4人で構成されます。距離は2000ｍで、ショートトラックのリンクを合計18周し、女子、女子、男子、男子の順に滑り、各人2回ずつ滑り、順位を競います。

日本選手の出場も決定しており、開会式翌日の2月5日に競技が行われます。

Speed Skating Short Track Mixed Relay.

Each team consists of two men and two women, for a total of four people. The distance is 2,000 meters, with a total of 18 laps around the short track on the rink.  The athletes will skate starting from the pair of women, to the pair of men in order, and each athlete will be skating two times to compete for placement. Japanese athletes have been selected to compete in this event, which will be held on February 5th, the day after the opening ceremony.

北京大会で新たに7種目が加わりましたが、そのうち3種目に日本選手が出場。今回出場が叶わなかった種目は、次回の2026年冬季オリンピックでエントリーできるといいですね。

なお、パラリンピックではスノーボードが新競技として注目されていますが、すでに4年前の平昌大会から正式種目として採用されており、今大会でも日本選手のメダルが期待されています。

日本と北京の時差は1時間で、夜更かしすることなく、観戦できます。北京2022冬季オリンピック・パラリンピックに向けて、多くの日本選手は練習を重ねてきました。テレビやインターネットなどを活用して、観戦するのはいかがでしょうか。
